Dahi Boondi (phulki)
Tiny Gram Flour Fritters In
Yogurt Sauce

Boondi:
-
3\4 cup basin (gram)
- 1-2 level tsp. bicarbonate of soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1\2 tsp. chili powder
- 1 cup water
- oil for frying
For Assembly:
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 medium tomatoes, seeded and cut into small cubes
- 3 green chili, roughly chopped
- 2-3 medium sized boiled potatoes, cut into small cubes
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. red chili
- 1 tsp.
garam masala
For Yogurt Sauce:
- 500 g.
plain yogurt
- 1\2 tsp. salt
- 1 clove garlic, crushed

Boondi:
1. Sift the basin, bbicarbonate of soda, chili powder and salt into a bowl. Make a slight well in the centre, add 1\2 cup of water and beat well with a wooden spoon or electric beater. Add enough water a little at a time to make a batter the consistency of thick cream. (The batter should be thinner than pakora batter.) The mixing should be done as quickly and lightly as possible. Leave to rest for 15 minutes.

2. Heat oil in a karahi or deep fryer. Test the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into the hot oil. It should rise to the top at once.
3. Pour batter in polythene bag and hold it like a piping bag, make about 3mm hole at the base. Pipe boondi  into hot oil.
Alternatively hold a perforated spoon over the hot oil. Pour the mixture little by little on the perforated spoon to make boondi. Fry to a golden colour, turning once or twice. Remove with a slotted spoon, drain on absorbent kitchen paper and then soak the boondi in plenty of warm water for few minutes. Press the boondi between the palms carefully to squeeze out the water.
Assembly:
4. Place the boondi, potatoes, tomatoes, green chilies and onions in a glass serving dish, Sprinkle salt, chili powder and garam masala over the boondi mixture and mix gently to coat the spices.
5. Whisk yogurt with 1\4 cup water, salt and garlic to make a smooth paste and pour evenly into the boondi mixture and stir gently.

6. Garnish with Chat Masala and Sweet Imli Chutney

You can water your plants while you are away by placing one end of string in a bucket of water and the other in the plant’s soil. As long as the bucket is positioned higher than the plant, the string will soak up the water and keep the soil moist.

HUBBLE
SPACE
TELESCOPE

The Hubble Space Telescope got back to business this summer after an intensive repair and upgrade mission in May by a crew aboard the space shuttle. This week, an exultant NASA praised the work done by the astronauts--"Bottom line, these professionals left Hubble as a new state-of-the-art telescope," said Ed Weiler, the agency's associate administrator for space science--and released a series of photos that offer fresh and spectacular glimpses of the interstellar realm. This image, taken by the new Wide Field Camera 3, shows the Butterfly Nebula (or Bug Nebula, cataloged as NGC 6302), at the center of which is a dying star that once had five times the mass of Earth's sun. The wings of this butterfly are actually gas heated to 36,000 degrees Fahrenheit and traveling faster than 600,000 miles per hour, NASA says. The nebula is some 3,800 light-years away in the constellation Scorpius, within the Milky Way galaxy. The outer edges of the butterfly wings arise from light emitted by nitrogen, while the white areas show light emitted by sulfur.

Low
self-esteem leads to obesity
Women's weight is more affected by their emotions study says
Two fat ladies sitting on a hay bale

Children with self-esteem problems are more likely to be obese as adults, a research team has found.

A study of 6,500 participants in the 1970 British Birth Cohort Study found that 10-year-olds with lower self esteem tended to be fatter as adults.
The effect was particularly true for girls, researchers from King's College London reported.
One obesity expert said the results highlighted that early intervention was key to tackling obesity.
The children had their weight and height measured by a nurse at the age of 10 and they self-reported when they were 30.
Their emotional states were also noted, the researchers reported in the journal BMC Medicine.
Children with a lower self-esteem, those who felt less in control of their lives, and those who worried often were more likely to gain weight over the next 20 years, the results showed.
Professor David Collier, who led the research, said: "What's novel about this study is that obesity has been regarded as a medical metabolic disorder - what we've found is that emotional problems are a risk factor for obesity.
"This is not about people with deep psychological problems, all the anxiety and low self-esteem were within the normal range."
Strategies
Another researcher, Andrew Ternouth, said: "While we cannot say that childhood emotional problems cause obesity in later life, we can certainly say they play a role, along with factors such as parental weight, diet and exercise.
"Strategies to promote the social and emotional aspects of learning, including the promotion of self-esteem, are central to a number of recent policy initiatives.
"Our findings suggest that approaches of this kind may carry positive benefits for physical health as well as for other aspects of children's development."
Dr Ian Campbell, of the charity, Weight Concern, said: "This study presents some disturbing evidence that, as we suspected, childhood psychological issues have an influence on future weight gain and health.
"Many of the adults we work with have identifiable underlying emotional and self esteem issues and are often resistant to treatment.
"The message here is that early intervention, in childhood, can be the key to combating adult obesity.
"That requires much more than health practitioners can deliver alone and needs greater alertness from parents, teachers, and anyone involved in the welfare of children."

 Some Worth Gifts
Assalam-O-Alaikum

Folks, hope all of you are in good shape and making most of the holy month of Ramadan
It is often mistakenly believed that we need money to give gifts to others and that only rich can do good deeds in terms of service to humanity. Giving gifts is in no way bonded to money. Performing good deeds is one the easiest way to please others. While helping some needy with money is one way, there are many other activities that one can do to please others.
One of the easiest to give and always readily available present is the gift of “affection”. A broad smile can brighten other’s day. It is said “smile is contagious”…your smile will make the other person happy and in his happiness he will smile to someone else and so on. That’s why it is said you smile… and the world smiles with you. By just a simple exercise of your mouth’s muscle you lighten up day for so many.
Appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back, handholds are just some of the expressions of feeling of warmth and care. Just by these effortless actions we can show the love we have for our dear ones.  Then there are many people who need someone to listen to them. You can give such people the gift of listening. Listen to their pains, their experience or just anything that they want to pour out.  Another great gift is the gift of laughter. If you are among the lucky ones who have a good sense of humor, then you can use it to ease others’ tensions. Or even if you don’t have, then share funny tales, jokes with your friends to show that you love to laugh with them. Another way to make someone's day is by giving them nice compliments. Don’t be stingy in praising others but just be realistic. Because it shows when it is really meant and when it is just pure flattery. They can be simple compliments like, “This color suits you really good”, “you cooked a wonderful meal”, “you did the job so well”. Another way to please others is by doing them small favors like helping elderly cross the road, holding the door for the elder to pass through, carry other’s load, polish dad’s shoes, massaging feet of elderly in your home. This will make them feel happy and you yourself will find yourself blessed when they will return your favor by giving you blessings.
So friends, enjoy your eid and be sure to give GIFTs to all you meet. And this giving of gifts shall go on all year through because they don’t cost but do wonders.
Eid Mubarik., Till next time, Allah Hafiz
