LAPTOP THIGH
Skin rash
WARNING

The toasted skin rash was caused by prolonged use of a laptop
It may be called a laptop, but there could be a price to pay for using it on your lap regularly, say doctors.

The heat generated by the underside of the machine is enough to cause a nasty rash, especially if used against bare skin for hours at a time.

The journal Pediatrics reported the case of a 12-year-old who developed discoloured skin after playing games for hours.

The rash should cause no lasting ill-effects, said a UK dermatologist.
The full name for the condition is erythema ab igne, and used to be common in people exposed to heat as part of their work, such as bakers and silversmiths.

It is sometimes seen in elderly patients who use hot water bottles to keep warm.

But now the condition, also called "toasted skin syndrome", is being seen in some laptop users.

Laptops can raise the temperature of parts of their case to above 50 degrees Celsius.

If left in contact with skin, this can result in a mottled appearance which does not immediately disappear, even after the machine has been removed.

In more serious cases of erythema, the skin can be left darkened, although not usually permanently.

The study by researchers at University Hospital Basel is not the first to note this problem. Other reported cases in medical journals included an American law student who spent six hours a day with her computer resting on her lap.

Dr Bav Shergill, a consultant dermatologist at Brighton University Hospitals NHS Trust, said that people who developed the rash should not be overly concerned.

"I would expect it to resolve fairly quickly, with no long term consequences.

"It's the same condition I used to see as a junior doctor in elderly ladies who spent all day sitting too close to electric bar fires.

"If you use a laptop like this every day, there could be discolouration, but even this should clear up."

 A Simple Rule
Assalam-O-Alaikum!
Fellows, I hope you all had smooth transition from vacationsí schedule to back-to-school routine.
This time, I want to relate to you an anecdote that some of you might have heard before. The story is about a man whose family had nothing to eat. The man just had an old gun and three bullets. So, to fend for his starving family, the man decided that he would go out hunting. He wanted to kill some wild animal for dinner. As he set off, the first animal he came across was a rabbit. He targeted it but missed it.
The rabbit ran away. Next he shot at the squirrel he spotted. He fired the second bullet he had at it but again hard luck- he missed it. The squirrel disappeared into a hole in the nearby tree. He felt bad about losing his targets but kept moving on. As he went further, he saw a big wild turkey. Since he had only one bullet remaining, he got perplexed. A voice spoke to him and said, "First Pray to Lord, then aim high and lastly stay focused." Just then he saw a deer. Surely deer would make a better kill than the turkey. He brought the gun down to aim at the deer, but instantly he heard a hissing sound near him. And to his shock there was a snake right next to him, about to bite him. Naturally he brought the gun down further to shoot the snake. But before he could press the gunís trigger, the voice again instructed him to pray, to aim high and stay focused. The man decided to pay heed to this voice. He prayed to Lord for help and guidance. He found his heart telling him to target the turkey sitting on the tree. So he turned his gun to shoot the turkey and shot it. The bullet bounced off the turkey and killed the deer too. The handle fell off the gun and hit the snake in the head, killing it instantly. The man had taken guidance from Lord so he ended up successful. He returned home with a dead deer and a turkey for his family to eat.
The above story might seem implausible. However it has a moral. The story teaches that before you undertake any mission, seek Lordís help and guidance. Beseech Him and pray. Then set your goals high and struggle to attain them. And all through, stay focused on God and continue seeking His help. The story also shows that one must get over his past and focus on present. Let the past failures serve as opportunities for learning and growth. In the above story, the man was likely to feel discouraged because of his previous failures. He had missed two targets before. He had only one bullet left. But the man let the past be past.
Snake in the story symbolizes the Satan, the devil who always tries to distract us when we try to stay focused and be on the right track. But those who strive to stay in Allahís protection manage to rise out unharmed by devilís attacks. As in the above story, the snake died simply because the man listened to Godís advice.
So friends, live every day and every moment to its fullest. ‎When you realize that Allah is All-Powerful, All-Merciful and All-Generous, all of this at the same time, then how can you possibly be pessimistic. Put your trust in Allah, and hope the best from Him.
Till we meet next,
Wa-alikum-us- salam
