Cooking with
Exclusive Recipe

- 2 cups flour, white or whole wheat
-1 tsp. salt
- Water for mixing
For filling:
- 3 bunches white radish (mooli)
- 3 green
chilies, chopped

- 1\2 cup coriander leaves, chopped
1 tsp. salt
-1 tsp. chili powder
- 2 tbsp. ghee
Ghee or butter for shallow frying

Combine flour and salt in a medium bowl. Gradually add water to bind the mixture together. Knead well for a few minutes until dough leaves the sides of the bowl clean. Cover with a damp cloth and keep aside for 15 minutes.

2. Meanwhile prepare the stuffing. Wash the radish and grate them, using a vegetable grater. Place the grated radish in a colander, add 1 teaspoon salt and mix well. Keep aside for 15 minutes.

3. Place a small amount of radish between the palm of your hands and press to squeeze out water. Put radish in a bowl, add green chilies, coriander leaves, salt, chili powder and 3 tablespoons ghee and mix well. Divide filling into 6 equal parts.

Divide dough into 12 round balls. Flatten each ball slightly. Put one portion of filling in centre. Place the other round over to cover the filling and press the edges together to seal.

5. Dip the stuffed round into some dry flour to prevent it from sticking to the surface and rolling pin.

Roll out each round on a lightly floured surface into a round 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter.

7. Cook one at a time on a hot
griddle over medium heat. Put about 1 or 2 tbsp ghee around the edge. Turn gently. Cook until sides turn golden brown. Serve with yogurt and lemon or mixed pickle.

To remove excess oil in any fried vegetables
Sprinkle a little gram flour over the vegetables. Gram flour absorbs the excess oil and makes the vegetable tastier.

Sweet-toothed children 'may have depression'
Child looking through a jar of sweets

While most children like sweets, those with an extra sweet tooth may be depressed or at higher risk of future alcohol problems, researchers say.

The US team report in the journal Addiction that certain children are especially drawn to very sweet tastes.

These were children who had a close relative with an alcohol problem or who themselves had symptoms of depression.
But it is unclear if the preference for the very sweet is down to genuine chemical differences or upbringing.

The researchers say sweet taste and alcohol trigger many of the same reward circuits in the brain.

Lead author Julie Mennella said: "We know that sweet taste is rewarding to all kids and makes them feel good.
"In addition, certain groups of children may be especially attracted to the intense sweetness due to their underlying biology."

Experts say alcoholics tend to have a sweet tooth.
But the link is less clear in children. Other US researchers have shown that a preference for the sweetest drinks was found in the ones undergoing growth spurts.

In the latest study, the scientists at the Monell Chemical Senses Center asked 300 children aged five to 12, of whom half had a family member with alcohol dependency, to taste five sweet water drinks containing different amounts of sugar.

The children were asked to say which tasted the best and were also asked questions to check for depressive symptoms.
A quarter had symptoms that the researchers believed suggested they might be depressed.

Sweet tooth
Liking for intense sweetness was greatest in the 37 children who had both a family history of alcoholism and reported depressive symptoms.

These children preferred the drink containing the most sugar - 24% sucrose, which is equivalent to about 14 teaspoons of sugar in a cup of water and more than twice the level of sweetness in a typical cola.

This was a third more intense than the sweetness level preferred by the other children.
The researchers then decided to test whether the children's taste difference had any impact on their reaction to pain or discomfort - past studies have suggested sweets may help act as analgesics as well as mood lifters.

They found non-depressed children were able to tolerate keeping their hands in very cold water for longer if they had a sugar hit.

However, the extra sugar did nothing to the depressed children's pain threshold.
Cardiff University's Professor Tim Jacob, an expert in smell and taste, said the findings were interesting, but that it was hard to make firm conclusions or generalisations from one study alone.

He said the findings could be down to brain chemistry, but might also be explained by behaviour and upbringing. "While it is true that sweet things activate reward circuits in the brain, the problem is that sweets and sugar are addictive, because the activation of these reward circuits causes opioid release, and with time more is needed to achieve the same effect.

"But the taste difference may be explained by differences like parental control over sweet consumption."

Children's Children!!

  • Change your Kitchen Habits -- Use reusable containers for food storage instead of wrapping food in foil or plastic wrap. You can also use unbleached coffee filters, which does not produce the deadly toxin dioxin in its manufacturing. Use rags to wipe up spills instead of paper towels, and use biodegradable wax paper and bags.
  • Shopping Bags -- Plastic bags are not biodegradable even if they say they are they do not decompose fully. Also the ink is made up of cadmium, and is highly toxic when it is released. Whereas paper bags are reusable and biodegradable. However supermarkets use paper that has never been recycled before and they always say "recyclable" not "recycled". Here is what you can do: if your purchase is small don't take any bag, this alone could save hundreds of millions of bags. Bring a cloth bag when you shop, or use string bags.
  • Beware of Your Showers -- If a four person family showers each day for 5-minutes, in one week they would use 700 gallons of water. This is enough water for a person to live off of for three years. With a family of four taking 5-minute showers, with a low-flow showerhead you can save at least 14,000 gallons of water a year. So if 100,000 families installed low-flow shower heads we would save 1.4 billion gallons.
  • Diapers -- Use cloth diapers when you put a diaper on your child. These disposable diapers consume 1,265,000 metric tons of wood pulp and 75,000 metric tons of plastic. After using disposable diapers we are supposed to wash them out, only 5% of us do. Meaning that millions of tons of dirty, possibly disease infected diapers wind up in our so called "sanitary" landfills. Infact three million tons of untreated feces and urine does not go through our sewage system but into our landfills. Over 100 different diseases are known to be excreted in human feces, and there is a chance (at least it has not happened yet) that they can seep into our groundwater. You can find cloth diapers if you look in the local Yellow Pages. Remember if you use cloth diapers you will need to use diaper covers so that the moisture can be held in. 100% wool felt seems to work as the best diaper cover.
  • Did you know that just in 1995 alone, recycled toner cartridges kept over 21,000 tons of trash out of landfills? Believe it or not, now you can recycle your printer's toner cartridges! Every year, Toner cartridges can be recycled, having just as good a performance as an unrecycled cartridge. To recycle your toner cartridges, find a local business that does printer cartridge recycling, or contact the manufacturer of your current toner cartridge and ask about a cartridge recycling program.
  • Not only should you recycle, but buy products that are recycled. By purchasing these products, you are helping to conserve natural resources, and to protect the environment.
  • Do not dump oil, grease, antifreeze, pesticides, fertilizers, paints, cleaners, and other toxic household products down the storm drain.
  • Buy in bulk--this saves not only on packaging that you would eventually have to dispose of, but reduces tremendously the amount of industrial waste generated to make the packaging.
  • Shop for durable, long-lasting products. For example, use a metal razor instead of disposables, or a metal roasting pan instead of a disposable one.
  • Reuse whatever you can, including aluminum pie tins, glassware, plastic cutlery and aluminum foil.
  • Buy products with recycled contents.
  • Precycle--make an effort to buy products with recyclable packaging.

 Make Your Fate
Hope all is sunny at your side.
Most of us have heard the phrase ‘Every man makes his own fate’. But have you ever wondered what it means? For some it means that if you do good deeds in the first half of your life you will have it easy in the second half. But there are so many counter examples to this interpretation. There are just so many people out there who do such sincere services for others but they don’t get same in return. They don’t have the blissful life that they deserve for their good deeds. While there are many cheats around who are pretentious and they still seem to get away after making other people's lives miserable. Some blame it to luck saying that few lucky ones are the one to get good in return of their good while others never do. They believe this is fate. Fate- on which one doesn't have the power to mould it the way one wants.
Then why this phrase that
Insaan Apni Kismet Khud Banata Hey’.  Ideally who do good shall get good, and those who commit evil shall get bad. But as per our observation, we do not see this hundred percent applicable in this world. Why so? What is your opinion in this matter? In my view, it is because this world is not the ideal place of justice, not the place where people get what they deserve. That is why there is a pre-determined Day of Judgment where there will be complete justice. Yes, in this way we can say that man makes his own fate- the fate of his after-life.  And of course, it is worth to invest in your after-life, because that is for eternity.
It is a hard battle with oneself to keep doing good when others around you are not and are still having more happy life than you. But then assure yourself- there is God above watching your struggle. He is taking into account each of your move and your intention. He also is taking into note every time someone takes you for a free ride and tramples over you considering your humbleness as a license to cause further pain. Don’t dampen your spirits because of these oafs. Just keep looking ahead and smile because you know that you are in safe hands of God. He is watching you and He won't let you struggle in vain. So smile and keep up the good work…

Wa-alikum-us- salam
